The Austin Fellows are
Christian lawyers and law students who have been educated in
some of America’s finest universities, clerked for a variety
of prestigious judges, held highly influential positions,
litigated numerous cases, and published several scholastic articles.
Certain Fellows are spotlighted below.
Shelley studied Political Science at Cedarville College in
Ohio. Following graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C.
where she interned in the office of Senator Charles Grassley
(R-IA), worked as a legal secretary at Patton Boggs, LLP,
and served as the Deputy Director of Communication and
Development at Freedom Alliance, a national security
non-profit organization. Shelley obtained her J.D. at The
College of William & Mary and currently is pursuing an LLM
in Human Rights Law at the University of Durham in the
United Kingdom. Upon completion of her course, she plans to
work in international development with either the U.S.
Government or an NGO. Her legal interests are in the areas
of human rights protection and rule of law development in
emerging states. Personal interests include history, music,
architecture and politics.
Alvin obtained a J.D. from Harvard Law School while serving
as a leader in Christian Fellowship and volunteering for the
Tenant Advocacy Project. He is currently a litigation
associate in the Cleveland, Ohio office of Jones Day. He
also serves as a trustee for Christian Legal Aid of
Cleveland and is a member of the Olivet Institutional
Baptist Church. Alvin’s primary scholarly interests are in
poverty law and jurisprudence. More specifically, Alvin is
very interested in studying how the abandonment of Christian
economic principles legitimated the exploitation of workers
and hastened the alienation of people away from the communal
life toward an individualistic and materialistic existence.
